Introduction
- When I was 55 kg, my jeans stopped fitting properly. I remember one particular morning I stood in front of my closet trying to zip up my favorite pair of jeans. It was getting so awkward, and honestly I felt really bad. I’d begun to shy away from some of my old clothes. They just didn’t feel right anymore. I kept thinking,
- “I need to join a gym.” But then I realized something. I didn’t even enjoy going to the gym. So why was I waiting for a gym membership to start taking care of myself? That’s when I decided to try something simple for 30 days. My goal was to lose 5 kg in 30 days without a gym, using walking, simple homemade Indian vegetarian food, and a more regular routine. And yes, I actually tracked everything.
My 30-Day Weight Plan
I didn’t check my weight every few hours like I used to. I tried to check it under similar conditions so I could actually understand the change.
This was my plan:
| TIME | WEIGHT |
| Start | 55 kg |
| Week -1 | 55 kg |
| Week -2 | 56 kg |
| Week -3 | 53 kg |
| Week 4 | 50 kg |
Of course, weight can change because of water, food, digestion, and other things too. So I didn’t treat the weighing scale like it was telling me the whole story. But seeing 53kg after starting at 55kg honestly made me very happy.
What My Normal Day Actually Looked Like (No Fancy Stuff)
My routine was boring. And I mean that in the best way possible. I wasn’t doing any crazy 1-hour workouts or making those fancy diet recipes you see on Instagram. I just stuck to simple home food and walking. That’s why I could actually follow it for 30 days.
| Time | What I Did | What I ate |
| 7:00 AM | Woke up and had a glass of water | _ |
| 7:20 AM | Morning walk for 25–30 minutes | _ |
| 9:00 AM | Breakfast | Poha/Besan chilla + Banana/Oats + Fruit/Upma/ |
| 1:30 PM | Dinner | 2 rotis + dal + sabzi + salad / Rice + rajma or chole |
| 5:00 PM | Evening | Fruit / Roasted makhana / Roasted chana / Curd + chai |
| 7:30–8:30 PM | Dinner | Dal + sabzi + roti / Paneer + vegetables / Moong dal khichdi / Vegetable soup |
| Throughout the day | Stayed active | Around 8,000–10,000 steps |
I tried not to make dinner super heavy. And one thing I noticed was that I was eating dinner very late earlier. So I started trying to finish it earlier when possible. Not every single day was perfect, though.
The Mistakes I Made
- Okay, now comes the honest part. I made A LOT of mistakes. During the first week, I became too excited. I thought, “If I eat less, I’ll lose weight faster.” So one day I barely ate properly during the day. Guess what happened? By evening I was starving. I ended up eating way more than I normally would. That taught me something very quickly—being hungry all day is not a good plan.
- Another mistake was checking the weighing scale every morning. I became obsessed with the number. One day my weight went down. The next day it went up. Then, I was like, “WHAT? I didn’t even do anything!” Then I understood that weight doesn’t always move down every single day. So I stopped checking it constantly. I also had days when I didn’t reach 10,000 steps. Sometimes I only walked around 6,000–7,000. And honestly, I didn’t feel guilty about it.
My Biggest Weakness: Snacks
- This was probably the hardest part. I love snacks. Especially when I’m sitting and watching something. Namkeen, biscuits, chips… bas ek packet saamne aa gaya toh control gaya. So instead of completely banning snacks, I stopped keeping big packets around me. If I really wanted something, I took a small portion.
- This helped because I didn’t feel like I was “on a diet. “I didn’t suddenly become a person who only eats homemade salad. I had outside food during these 30 days too. There were days I had pizza. There were days I ate momos. I even had sweets. The difference was that these things were not happening every single day. Earlier, one cheat meal could become a cheat weekend. “Today I’ll eat it, kal se healthy.”
What Changed After 30 Days?
After 30 days, my weight was around 5 kg lower than when I started. But honestly, the number wasn’t even my favorite part. My clothes started fitting better. My jeans didn’t feel so uncomfortable. I felt lighter while walking. And I had more energy during the day. The biggest thing was that I finally felt like I was doing something for myself. I didn’t spend hours in the gym. I didn’t follow some crazy diet. I just walked more, ate more mindfully, and tried to stay consistent.
My Biggest Lesson
- Honestly yaar, before this, I thought losing weight meant doing something extreme. But for me, the biggest change was just becoming more regular. I stopped waiting for the “perfect Monday.” I stopped thinking one unhealthy meal ruined everything. And I stopped thinking I needed a gym membership to start moving. Therefore, walking was enough to get me started.
- Eating normal homemade food was enough. And being a little more careful every day made a difference. So that’s my 5 kg in 30 days without a gym story. I’m not saying everyone will lose exactly 5 kg in 30 days. Everyone’s body is different. I’m just sharing what worked for me. And honestly, if you had told me one month ago that I would actually enjoy my evening walks, I would have laughed.
One walk. One better meal. One day at a time.
